S.O.U.L - London
After moving
from America to London from my parents divorcing, I faced many difficulties of not
having my Dad around growing up and living within a broken family. This had a profound effect on me and shaped my
life. Growing up I always wished I had someone around to help guide me which
is why I created S.O.U.L.
S.O.U.L. provides a window of opportunity for young people in Britain and America who are at risk of social exclusion to amplify their voice by communicating thought.
S.O.U.L acts as a motivational vehicle to drive creative expression.
The benefits of this work are to build self-esteem, self-confidence and awareness in young adults, which is essential for character-building qualities.
During this project the young people have been free to express themselves within their images. Then I would ask them to look at their images, many of them expressed how they can see why people stereotype them sometimes. My advice was this is a part of their image but now write in words another part of you that will show people who don't know you what is in your heart. My question to them is 'What sets you fee?'.
Within this work, young people play an important role as teachers. This will raise awareness and encourage social change by cutting across prejudices about where people live, how they look and their interests in life.
Our youth are our future who inspire, and it is important to focus on them so they can contribute to this world instead of just being a product of it.
